No-Go This Week

Today, Holly took off work and took Caleb in for his week-long chemo this week. The plan was for me to take over tomorrow and spend the rest of the week at the hospital with Caleb. There is one drug he takes every few weeks that will burn his bladder if it sits on the bladder too long. So they have to keep him pumped full of fluids 24/7 while he is on that one. That was supposed to be this week. However, when they checked his blood today, his counts were too low to receive chemo. They gave Caleb a pint of platelets to help bring his numbers up. While he was getting that, they noticed that his incision was very red and looked like it might be infected. The clinic called the orthopedics department and they all decided to admit Caleb anyway since his numbers were down and it looked like infection.

Holly and Caleb went over to check in the room at the hospital after spending several hours at the clinic. An orthopedic team member came to check on Caleb and said the incision looked fine! So after all that, Holly and Caleb came home.

We go back on Thursday to see what his numbers look like and will decide from there what to do as far as the chemo regimen he is due for this week. We have added three nightly injections of Neupogen this week to try and help the numbers, too. I’ll post more later this week as we know more!

Today’s verse – “The Lord rescues the godly; He is their fortress in times of trouble. The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in Him.” -Psalm 37:39-40
